Recap of 1st Training Session for "Art of Hosting Conversations that Matter"

On Saturday, March 11, 2017, NCR staff, NCEC commissioners, neighborhood organization leaders and community members participated in the first day of a three-day workshop on the Art of Hosting Conversations that Matter training program. In all, 36 participants attended from 9:00 to 4:30.
Learning included the PeerSpirit Circle Practice, the importance of establishing agreements for being in the Circle, and three principles and practices. The group also explored the importance of Worldview, and the Ladder of Inference.
In the afternoon, the group learned about the World Café process, and used the technique to develop questions to be used for the Neighborhoods 2020 Community Dialogues in April and May.
The final three questions developed through three rounds of World Café are:
·         What services, opportunities and information should n'hood orgs provide?
·         What are characteristics of an effective neighborhood organization?
·         How can neighborhood organizations empower civic engagement?
These questions were selected by the group at the end of the day by a tally to demonstrate preferences.
