The meeting was called to order at 4:35 p.m.

Public Hearings

1. 1601 Hennepin Avenue, Electric Auto Sales Company Building – Harmon Place Historic District, Ward 7

Certificate of Appropriateness to allow for a master sign plan and new signs.

ACTIONS: Adopt staff findings and approve a Certificate of Appropriateness for the proposed master sign plan subject to the following conditions:

  1. The real estate sign currently mounted to the building shall be removed prior to issuance of Building Permit.
  2. The four signs currently on the awnings shall be accepted as existing conditions to be removed prior to issuance of Building Permit for first floor signage.
  3. Amend the proposed sign plans and proposed master sign plan to indicate the following conditions prior to issuance of Building Permit:
  4. • The projecting sign shall be attached to a permanent mounting plate.

    • Electrical conduit for the projecting sign shall be installed through the permanent mounting plate.

    • Not more than one brick shall be damaged by the installation of the permanent mounting plate.

    • Electrical conduit shall be attached to the projecting sign and not the building wall.

    • The wall signs shall be attached to the building through the mortar joints.

    • The proposed and existing illumination shall light no more than 2 signs.

    • No clear plexiglass face covers are permitted on signs.

    • Only sections D.1.a, D.1.c, D.1.f-g, D2, D4 a-c, and D.4.e-f are approved.

    • When the master sign plan does not address particular issues, signs on the subject property shall abide by the regulations stipulated in the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission Design Guidelines for On-Premise Signs and Awnings.

  5. Deny the request for the two illuminated wall signs to be placed just below the roofline of this 30 foot tall building.
  6. CPED-Planning Preservation Staff shall review and approve the final plans and elevations prior to building permit issuance.

ACTIONS: Adopt staff findings and approve the Framework for Treatment of Character Defining Features for the Reactivation of the Hollywood Theater.

3. 2815 Johnson Street NE, Hollywood Theater – Individual Landmark, Ward 1

Certificate of Appropriateness to allow for the removal of auditorium seats and the installation of new projection booth windows as part of staging and stabilization improvements.

ACTIONS: Adopt staff findings and approve the Certificate of Appropriateness to allow for the removal of auditorium seats and the installation of new projection booth windows as part of staging and stabilization improvements.

4. 140 Melbourne Avenue SE – Contributing Resource, Prospect Park Potential Historic District, Ward 2

Certificate of Appropriateness to replace windows, window openings, and doors.

ACTIONS: Adopt staff findings and approve a Certificate of Appropriateness for the proposed work subject to the following conditions:

  1. CPED-Planning Preservation Staff shall review and approve the final plans and elevations prior to building permit issuance.

5. 620 9th Street S, Mayhew Building Townhouse – South 9th Street Historic District, Ward 7

Certificate of Appropriateness to add deck to rear roof.

ACTIONS: Adopt staff findings and approve a Certificate of Appropriateness for the proposed deck subject to the following conditions:

  1. The proposed balustrade, decking and joists shall not obscure, damage, or destroy historic building materials.
  2. CPED-Planning Preservation Staff shall review and approve the final plans and elevations prior to building permit issuance.
