Approval November 19, 2012 MCCR minutes; moved by Froehle, approved by consensus, Rodriguez-Melendez and Noble abstain.
Approval of December 17, 2012 MCCR Meeting Agenda moved by Fukuda, second Unni, approved.
Interim Assistant Director Toni Newborn provides the Commissioner’s Update Brief (CUB). As of December 17, 2012, there were 107 case files pending resolution with the department. There are 10 current cases under review by the Commission: 1 Probable Cause (PC); 2 No Probable Cause (NPC) and 7 Dismissals. Staff Newborn confirms that the department EEOC contract goals for 2012 have been fulfilled. Eight cases are under review for the 2013 EEOC contract.
Commission on Civil Rights Committee Reports:
Contract Compliance – Did not meet, the committee will reconvene in 2013 to elect a new chair and conduct other business of the committee.
Standards and Procedures: Commissioner Thompson reports that S&P met in December and discussed meeting dates and the schedule for 2013, as well as internal operating procedures.
Public Relations and Education: Commissioner Khan shares that PR&E met at GiGi (36th and Bryant) to review MLK Essays and again prior to the full commission meeting on 12/17 to select finalists for the Award(s). The MLK Essay and Dream 50 Awards are currently scheduled to be presented by the Mayor and City Council on February 08, 2013.
MN League of Human Rights Commissions: Commissioner Nelson was absent, no report.
Appointments and re-appointments to the Commission on Civil Rights are scheduled for public hearing with the Public Safety, Civil Rights and Health Committee of the City Council on January 09, 2013.
Commission Chair report: The Appeals Committee for December is Froehle, Larsen and Noble, with Oberreuter as alternate. Chair Froehle indicates that the 2013 MCCR calendar will be reviewed further for potential conflicts holidays and significant observances. The Executive Committee will meet on January 14, 2013. The Full Commission will meet on January 28, 2013. Attendance tracking will be more closely tracked in 2013. Saturday, February 2, 2013, has been scheduled for a Commissioner’s Orientation training; March 2013 has been designated for a Strategic Planning Meeting. Tonight will be Commissioner Monteiro has accepted an appointment on the CRU for the City and tonight will be last meeting on the Commission; cake will be served after the meeting.
