September 29, 2009 (MINNEAPOLIS) –Holy Land Brand, Inc. business and products, now proudly boasts one of the nation’s best spicy hummus and its first hummus production facility. On September 29, Holy Land CEO, Majdi Wadi, was joined by Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and the Northeast Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the facility’s grand opening. The Holy Land hummus factory is located at 2519 Central Avenue NE in Northeast Minneapolis in the former Sully’s Bar next to the Holy Land market and deli. The celebration will also include a tour of the new Holy Land bakery, located at 1617 Central Avenue NE.

“Holy Land is more than a small-business in the Northeast community the heart and soul of Central Avenue. It’s a fantastic company with a fantastic leader,” said Mayor R.T. Rybak. “Central Avenue has a great history, but it’s seen some tough times and now it’s being reborn after a period of commercial decline because Holy Land has helped spur a remarkable revitalization.”

The new Holy Land bakery and Minnesota’s first hummus production facility are more than a business expansion; they are further proof of Holy Land’s strong commitment to helping the community it serves. Holy Land has an ongoing pledge to donate five percent of the business’ gross revenue to community causes, charities and schools.

“I purchased and expanded into the two new locations not for my business, but to help make a positive difference for Minnesota families and other small business owners in the area,” said Wadi. “Over the past 20 years, Minnesota communities have been very supportive of my family and our business. I show my appreciation by: giving back to the communities through donations; helping other small-business owners establish their business; working with the city to build a safer neighborhood; and by creating new jobs.”

Residents and community business owners along Central Avenue had long expressed concerns over Sully’s Bar’s reputation for attracting drug and prostitution into the area. Another neighborhood concern was a building located nine blocks down from Holy Land’s current location that had stood vacant for five years. In 2007, Holy Land purchased the bar next door at above market value, along with the vacant building to help remedy the neighborhood’s situation. Holy Land brought the vacant building up to code and its bakery into the new location. This was followed by Holy Land’s renovation of the former bar into its new hummus production facility. This new hummus factory will also now be where the “Best Spicy Hummus” is produced. In March 2009, Every Day With Rachel Ray gave Holy Land Jalapeño Hummus props for authenticity and flavor and named it “Best Spicy Hummus.”

“The bakery and hummus factory is only the start of Holy Land’s plan for the community. Our vision includes providing a new residential development for the neighborhood,” added Wadi.

The city of Minneapolis and Mayor R.T. Rybak previously issued a resolution honoring Wadi and Holy Land for their significant and outstanding contributions to the city of Minneapolis. Wadi was also recognized by the City for becoming the first Minnesotan and Arab American to receive the national Thomas Carvel Immigrant Entrepreneur Award.
