Finance Staff
Finance staff primary responsibilities include:
- Establishing grants in FISCOL
- Insuring that there is proper authorization to accept grants
- Insuring that there is sufficient appropriation to spend the grant
- Insuring that expenditures are properly recorded
- Insuring that grantor reports are filed in an accurate and timely manner
- Preparing cash requests
- Becoming familiar with Federal OMB Circulars
- Reporting to program staff on the status of the grant
- Assisting when grants are monitored by the grantor agency
In order to accomplish these tasks, program staff must inform finance staff of both the external and internal reporting requirements. Staff must be proactive in determining what financial information they want in the future. Only then, can coding be established to maximize the functionality of the various reporting mechanisms available. Since different federal departments administer federal programs, it is the responsibility of the program staff to know the specific cost definitions of their programs. Program staff need to know and communicate to their finance staff what costs are eligible under the specific budgeted cost categories of their grant.
