Instant Runoff Voting Implementation Update #4
The Secretary of State's Office Ranked Choice Voting Issues Group was organized in June of 2007 to look at the system of voting that Minneapolis voters have chosen to adopt and other Minnesota cities have expressed an interest in. The group met Friday, February 1, 2008 to receive reports of two subcommittees; the Legislative and Rules Committee, and the Technical Advisory Committee.
The Legislative and Rules Committee was charged with the task of developing proposed Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) rules and procedures and crafting draft legislation to implement those rules. The final report included a summary of the work completed and the draft bill.
The Technical Advisory Committee conducted a study of existing options for equipment, technology and certification related to implementation of Ranked Choice Voting. The report is a culmination of that study.
The RCV Issues Group may be reconvened to continue their work at a later date. No meetings are scheduled at this time.
The Minneapolis Elections Department will work with the City Council to inform them of the findings of the RCV Issues Group and seek direction regarding next steps for implementation of ranked choice voting in Minneapolis.
