The City of Minneapolis is soliciting proposals for the purchase, lease or management and operation of Hennepin Stages (formerly Hey City Theater) at 824 Hennepin Avenue in the Hennepin Theatre District.

The City currently owns the building, which, for the last 10 years has housed the Hey City Theater, and is willing to consider a range of alternative ownership, leasing, or operating structures, with preference being to sell, lease or enter an operating agreement, in that order.

The Hennepin Theatre District and is adjacent to the core of Minneapolis’ Central Business District, which has 160,000 employees, and is part of the Upper Midwest’s most vibrant entertainment/hospitality district.

Preference will be given to proposals to operate the space as a venue for performance or arts-related activities.

Proposals may be submitted by individual entities or by teams comprised of multiple entities. The selected respondent must be prepared to take possession or assume its management responsibilities as of January 1, 2005, or such later date as may be mutually agreed upon.

A pre-proposal conference and walk-through tour of the theaters was held October 5, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. in the 824 Hennepin Building.
