Hiawatha Commons

Alliance Housing Inc. is construction a new five-story building with 80 units of affordable and market-rate rental housing and commercial space at the northwest corner of the Minnehaha Mall in Minneapolis’ Longfellow neighborhood.

The project will include underground and surface parking. The sites proximity to the Hiawatha Light Rail Station on Lake Street will provide residents with convenient access to Downtown Minneapolis, and Mall of America and the airport.

City Investment:  $30,000 – non-profit admin funds
$500,000 – neighborhood revitalization program
$500,000 – empowerment zone
$760,000 – affordable housing trust fund
$540,000 – low income housing tax credits
Total Development Cost:  $12.6 million
Number of Units:  80
Unit Sizes:  40 studio units, 24 one-bedroom units, 16 two-bedroom units
Parking Spaces: 103
Construction start: 2005-06
Completion expected: 2006
