East River Mews
825 Thornton Street Southeast
East River Mews, a site once considered a "fuel tank farm," is a 53-unit home ownership housing project located in Prospect Park. Petroleum products were processed and stored on the site from 1910 when the W.H. Barber Company began its operations until 1984 when Gopher Oil ceased its operations. The site is designated as a Superfund site and is undergoing cleanup according to a Response Action Plan approved by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Brighton Development Corporation purchased the five-acre triangular block from Union Oil of California and plans to build 38 townhouses and a 15-unit condominium building.
