Objective: Construction of the new North American headquarters of Coloplast Corporation in north Minneapolis will bring over 300 new jobs to the city, provide mentoring and internship opportunities for local high-school and college students, and serve as a catalyst for revitalization and investment on the Upper River.
Description: Denmark-based Coloplast – a global leader in the development of intimate healthcare products and services - selected north Minneapolis as the new home for its North American headquarters in 2006. The $35 million campus, located on a 5.4 acre site on the bank of the Mississippi River, will be LEED certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and will include one of the company’s three global Innovation Centers. The 178,000 square-foot facility will house approximately 500 employees in sales, marketing, and research and development. The company is relocating North American headquarters operations from Atlanta and Santa Barbara to Minneapolis.
Partners: The project developer is Minneapolis-based North Marq Properties, in partnership with Kraus-Anderson Construction Company and RSP Architects. The City of Minneapolis provided $2.9 million in Tax Increment Financing to support the project, the State of Minnesota provided a Minnesota Investment Fund loan of $500,000 as well as $890,000 in an environmental remediation grant and Metropolitan Council contributed $54,500 in an environmental remediation grant. Coloplast is partnering with North High School in Minneapolis to provide mentoring programs designed to educate and promote medical technology careers. The company has also established the Coloplast Scholars program to provide college-level internships to college students who live in north Minneapolis.
