Bassett Creek Valley Rezoning Study

Background

The Bassett Creek Valley rezoning study built on the Bassett Creek Valley Master Plan, which was adopted by the Minneapolis City Council in January 2007. The Bassett Creek Valley Master Plan outlines a vision and strategy for how future growth and potential redevelopment should occur in the Bassett Creek Valley (BCV) area, an area bounded by I-394 on the south, I-94 on the east, 4 th Avenue on the north, and Cedar Lake Road and Bryn Mawr Meadows Park on the west.

The Rezoning Study

What is zoning? All property is in a zoning district, and that zoning district determines what can be built there—whether a single family home, a condominium building, a restaurant or a factory. The Bassett Creek Valley rezoning study was undertaken as one step in implementing the goals of the Bassett Creek Valley Master Plan. It resulted in changes to the zoning of property so that what can be built corresponds as closely as possible to what is envisioned in the BCV Master Plan.

The zoning changes recommended in the Bassett Creek Valley rezoning study were approved by the Minneapolis City Council on February 15, 2008, with a housekeeping amendment to that action on April 18, 2008. Zoning changes took effect on April 28, 2008. To view a map of the new zoning, click on the link below. Or view the changes to zoning in the table below.
