The City of Minneapolis is proposing to establish a redevelopment project area to include the vacant Hollywood Theatre building at 2815 Johnson Street Northeast and two additional parcels at 2800 and 2819 Johnson Street Northeast. The primary objective of this redevelopment project is the long-term, stable reuse of the Hollywood Theatre and related properties to achieve a stable long-term reuse. To achieve that goal, components of an interim use plan, including near-term improvements and development of a marketing strategy, are being undertaken to facilitate implementation of a marketing plan in early 2009. The City currently owns the theater building and the vacant lot at 2800 Johnson Street Northeast. The City may acquire the property immediately north of the theater building, at 2819 Johnson Street Northeast, to improve access and increase the likelihood of redevelopment of the theater.
The Hollywood Theatre Redevelopment Plan establishes a new redevelopment project area, establishes redevelopment objectives and land use recommendations, and identifies property that may be acquired by the City of Minneapolis.
We expect the City Council to consider the proposed Plan on Friday, November 7, 2008 following a public hearing at the Community Development Committee on Tuesday, October 28, 2008.
