St. Barnabas housing wins meritorious award
The City of Minneapolis Department of Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED) received a Meritorious Achievement Award from the National Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies (NALHFA) Nov. 18, 2005 for participation in the St. Barnabas Apartments project.
Selection criteria included extraordinary benefit to the community, innovation, replicability, affordability, and serving the needs of special groups.
Allina Hospitals donated the former St. Barnabas hospital, at 906 7th St. S. in the Elliot Park Neighborhood of Downtown Minneapolis. Central Community Housing Trust (CCHT) developed the project into 52 affordable rental housing units. Thirty-nine of the units are supportive housing for homeless and at-risk youth and 13 apartments are for low-income adults.
YouthLink, a youth-serving social service agency, operates a 24-hour front desk and offers life-skills workshops for the youth.
