The Minneapolis City Council is expected to consider the Minnehaha Avenue Apartments Redevelopment Plan on Friday, July 20, 2007 following a public hearing about the project at the Community Development Committee on Tuesday, July 10, 2007.
The proposed Minnehaha Avenue Apartment building, near 53 rd Street East and Minnehaha Avenue, would include 37 apartments in a newly constructed green building along the Hiawatha Light Rail Transit Corridor. The apartments are a compact high-density site and would be considered affordable workforce housing. The project would require demolishing and replacing a boarding house, a two-bedroom single-family residence, and a bar/tavern. The proposed project exceeds Green Communities criteria developed by the Family Housing Fund and includes energy-efficient design and a rain garden, and may also include permeable walkways and light reflective roof surface to reduce the heat-island effect.
