Corridor Housing Strategy wins "innovation" award

Minneapolis Corridor Housing Strategy will receive a 2006 Local Government Innovation Award from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota; Association of Minnesota Counties; League of Minnesota Cities; and Minnesota School Boards Association.

The Corridor Housing Strategy aims to increase affordable housing along transit corridors—Minneapolis’ "Main Streets"—by acquiring critical sites, awarding priority funding to development tied to jobs and transit, and giving neighborhood organizations an early and comprehensive role in planning.

The strategy has won numerous awards in the past couple years including the:

2007 American Planning Association Planning Excellence Award for a Grassroots Initiative

2005 Fannie Mae Foundation Innovations Award finalist

2005 American Planning Association Outstanding Planning Award

The Local Government Innovation Award will be presented on April 12, 2007 at the University of Minnesota.
