Corridor Housing Strategy wins national "grassroots initiative" award

TheCorridor Housing Initiative, part of theCity of Minneapolis Corridor Housing Strategy , won the "2007 National Planning Excellence Award for a Grassroots Initiative" from the American Planning Association.

Minneapolis’ Corridor Housing Strategy aims to increase affordable housing along transit corridors—Minneapolis’ "Main Streets"—by acquiring critical sites, awarding priority funding to development tied to jobs and transit, and giving neighborhood organizations an early and comprehensive role in planning.

In collaboration with the City of Minneapolis, the Center for Neighborhoods coordinates the Corridor Housing Initiative with support from a team of technical experts, the Family Housing Fund of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, and the Twin Cities Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC).

Representatives from the Center for Neighborhoods and its housing initiative will be recognized at APA's National Planning Conference during a luncheon and awards ceremony April 17, 2007, in Philadelphia. Accomplishments of the Center for Neighborhoods and 13 other national awardees will be highlighted in the April issue of APA’s Planning magazine.
