After an 18-month strategic planning process, the 2006 Bassett Creek Valley Master Plan to transform 230-acres near downtown into a new urban village is ready for public review.
The planning process was coordinated and sponsored by a partnership between the Bassett Creek Valley Redevelopment Oversight Committee and the development group Ryan Companies . At least 650 community members participated in the process. The plan includes redeveloping the industrial landscape into more than 3,000 housing units and 2.5 million square feet of commercial space, establishing nearly 40 acres of new open space, and restoring Bassett Creek.
A 45-day public comment period will end Oct. 15, 2006. All comments will be included in the staff report to the City Planning Commission. A public hearing is tentatively scheduled during the City Planning Commission meeting at 4:30pm on Monday, Oct. 30, 2006 in City Hall room 317.
