North Commons Park Sidewalk Gap
Currently, some streets in the area around North Commons Park do not have sidewalks.
After the new sidewalk is added, there will be more places for pedestrians to travel.
Public Works has identified a sidewalk gap in North Commons Park in the Near North and Willard-Hay neighborhoods as part of the Sidewalk Gap Program. The objective of this program is to fill gaps in the sidewalk network as identified in the Minneapolis Pedestrian Master Plan. A connected and continuous sidewalk network better accommodates the needs of all pedestrians.
The City of Minneapolis will evaluate sidewalk gaps at the following locations:
- Morgan Ave N (18th Ave N – 16th Ave N)
- 16th Ave N (Logan Ave N – James Ave N)
The proposed project is scheduled to occur over the course of the 2019 construction season. The scope of the project will include constructing sidewalks with ADA ramps at impacted intersections.
There will be no special assessments to property owners as a part of this project.
Project Schedule and Public Input
Public Works introduced the project in 2018 and is now seeking feedback on the Concept Layout. The project is anticipated to be constructed during the 2019 construction season.

The retaining wall was installed and excavation/grading was completed along Morgan Ave N in preparation for the new sidewalk being poured next week. The pedestrian ramp removals at 17th Ave N are ongoing and expected to be completed this week.
Surveyors marked out sidewalk locations along 16th Ave N between Logan and James Ave N, which will be phase 2 of this project.

City crews will begin excavating and grading for the new sidewalk being installed on the east side of Morgan Ave N between 16th Ave N and 18th Ave N the week of July 15th. Additionally, a portion of the 17th Ave N pedestrian ramps will be worked on to facilitate two directional crossing.
