29th Street Reconstruction

Project Type:
This project involves the reconstruction of W 29th St.  A Shared Use Street concept (woonerf) is being pursued to improve the pedestrian environment and to better meet the needs of the community.

Project Limits:
The 29th St project is located in south Minneapolis from Dupont Ave S to Lyndale Ave S and from Emerson Ave S to Fremont Ave S. The portion to be reconstructed in 2016 is between Bryant Ave S and Lyndale Ave S.

Construction Start Date:
Week of July 25, 2016

Duration of Construction:
There will be substantial completion in one construction season. Tree planting and sodding will take place in 2017.

Traffic Impact:
Access to existing buildings will be maintained.

Meetings:

Public meetings have been held and the community engagement process has concluded.

Project Updates:

October 31, 2016: The project is substantially complete and open to the public. Lighting will be added this winter with trees and sodding to be placed in Spring 2017. A grand opening will be held once the project is complete. Public art will also be installed in Spring 2017.

2015: Preliminary design concepts have recently been developed for public comment.  The project final design will be completed in 2015 after the City Coucil/Mayor approves the draft concept.  Project construction is expected to begin in 2016.
