E Minnehaha Parkway Paving

Project Type:
This is a Parkway Paving project. The existing asphalt roadway surface will be profiled and new asphalt will be placed on the roadway.

Project Limits:
The East Minnehaha Parkway Paving Project is located on East Minnehaha Parkway from Cedar Ave to 27th Ave S/ Woodlawn Ave. Due to necessary storm sewer work, the block between Cedar and Longfellow will be completed in 2014. 22nd Ave S, between Minnehaha Parkway and Nokomis Parkway will be included in this paving work in 2013.

Construction Start Date:
Resurfacing is scheduled to begin in September. Curb and gutter replacement will begin the week of Sept 2. The concrete crosswalks and manhole structures will be adjusted on September 16. Pavement removals are tentatively scheduled to begin on September 17th.

Length of Construction:
This work is being scheduled around the Minneapolis Bike Tour on September 15 and the Twin Cities Marathon on October 6. Curb and gutter replacement will be completed by Sept 13. On Monday, September 16, paving work will begin. The first day will involve preparatory work, and pavement removals are tentatively scheduled to begin on September 17. It is anticipated that all work will be completed by the Twin Cities Marathon. If for some reason something unforeseen arises, alternatives including weekend work and/or postponing certain work activities until after the marathon will be utilized.

Traffic Impact:
During the curb and gutter replacement, the parkway will be open to traffic. At times, traffic may be flagged to maintain through traffic.
During paving work, the construction activities will be performed under full road closure. Access to Nokomis Recreation Center will be maintained as much as possible, from either 28th Ave S or from Cedar. It is anticipated that there will be a couple of days that E Minnehaha Parkway will be completely closed while the final two layers of asphalt are placed. It is recommended that Nokomis Parkway be used for access during this time.

Bike paths will be open adjacent to the parkway. The concrete crosswalks are being removed. For safety’s sake, it is recommended that folks cross the parkway at 27th Ave S/Woodlawn Blvd or at Cedar.

Nokomis Recreation Center access:
During this work, we will try to maintain access as much as possible to Nokomis Recreation Center. The access will change over the duration of the project. It is anticipated during the first week of construction (week of Sept 16), the same route will be utilized all week. However, during the second and third weeks, it will vary over each week. Please check the Project Updates section at the bottom of this webpage for regular updates.
