W River Parkway Paving
This is a Parkway Paving project. The existing asphalt roadway surface will be profiled and new asphalt will be placed on the roadway.
The West River Parkway Paving Project is located on West River parkway from 4th St S to Franklin Ave including ramps.
Construction Start Date:
Road closures are scheduled to start on April 29th. Intermittent lane closures will occur prior to the project, starting the week of April 15, to prepare the road for pavement replacement. This preparation work includes select curb replacement, removal of concrete cross walks, and lowering manhole structures.
Length of Construction:
The road closure is anticipated to last five weeks. The existing pavement will be milled (removed) out in its entirety and replaced. The existing roadbed is native soils, so the initial work days will alternate milling and asphalt placement. This will be done to protect the roadbed from the elements, which may cause damage. When this is complete, additional layers of asphalt will be place and the manholes will be raised to the correct elevation.
Initially, there will be intermittent lane closures to replace curb, remove concrete crosswalks, and lower manholes. The paving work will be performed under full road closure. There will be no parking on West River Parkway during the duration of the project.

May 22, 2013: Project is complete.
May 14, 2013: Asphalt paving is almost complete. The final work item remaining is to transverse saw and seal the new pavement. This is done to control the naturally occurring pavement cracking. By sawing and sealing the pavement, it creates controlled cracks in the pavement. Sealing prevents water from entering the new pavement. This makes the pavement longer lasting. The main portion of the parkway will be sawed and sealed first When this portion is complete, it will be opened to traffic. The ramps to Franklin will be completed last and will open when all of the sawing and sealing is complete.
April 29, 2013: Pavement removals have started. Pavement removals and asphalt placement will occur on alternate days until the base (first) course of asphalt is in place. This is done to protect the soils underneath the roadway.
