54th St E Resurfacing
Project Type:
This is a paving resurfacing project. Resurfacing projects use a mill and overlay process. This process will consist of removing a portion of the existing asphalt pavement surface and placing a new surface over the entire street. The purpose of the resurfacing program is to extend the life of a roadway by approximately 10 years. Without this program, streets in the in the program would not see surface improvements for many years.
Additionally, Minneapolis Traffic and Parking Services is upgrading signal systems at Chicago Avenue and at 12th Ave S. This will involve replacing signal foundations and conduit.
Project Limits:
The resurfacing project is located in south Minneapolis on 54th St E from Portland Ave to W Lake Nokomis Parkway. Portland to Bloomington was originally pave in 1961 or 52 years ago. Bloomington to W Lake Nokomis Parkway was originally paved in 1973 or 40 years ago.
Construction Start Date:
Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of April 22nd, 2013.
Length of Construction:
The length of construction for this project will be approximately one week.
Traffic Impact:
The work will be performed during full or partial road closures. Please note that street parking will be impacted and short term intermittent access restrictions may occur. When construction work will be done on a particular street in the project area, the street will be posted NO PARKING prior to work on that particular street.

Pre-payment Information:
Prepayment is made to the Minneapolis Finance Department. Pay statements are sent only by request and the taxpayer is solely responsible for obtaining said statement. Full prepayments may be accepted only through December 31st, 2013 without interest. Partial prepayments are not provided for. No further notice of prepayment will be published. April 29, 2013: Resurfacing is complete between 11th Ave S and W Nokomis Parkway. Crack sealing to take place in 2014. E 54th St, between 11th and Portland, will be resurfaced later this summer.
April 23, 2013: Construction from Portland Ave to 11th Ave S has been postponed to later in 2013 due to the recent snow.
