31st St W Resurfacing

Project Type:
This is a paving resurfacing project. Resurfacing projects use a mill and overlay process.  This process will consist of removing a portion of the existing asphalt pavement surface and placing a new surface over the entire street. The purpose of the resurfacing program is to extend the life of a roadway by approximately 10 years.  Without this program, streets in the in the program would not see surface improvements for many years.

Project Limits:
The 31st St W Resurfacing Project is located in south Minneapolis on 31st St W from Hennepin Ave to Nicollet Ave and originally paved in 1967 or 1968 or over 40 years ago.

Construction Start Date:
Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of May 6th, 2013.

Length of Construction:
The length of construction for this project will be approximately two weeks.

Traffic Impact:
The work will be performed during full or partial road closures this summer or fall.  Please note that street parking will be impacted and short term intermittent access restrictions may occur.  When construction work will be done on a particular street in the project area, the street will be posted NO PARKING prior to work on that particular street.

Pre-payment Information:
Prepayment is made to the Minneapolis Finance Department.  Pay statements are sent only by request and the taxpayer is solely responsible for obtaining said statement.  Full prepayments may be accepted only through December 31st, 2013 without interest.  Partial prepayments are not provided for.  No further notice of prepayment will be published.  Persons who wish to prepay the entire assessment lump sum without interest charges may do so by contacting the Minneapolis City Engineer's Special Assessment Office, 309 2nd Ave S, Room 209, Minneapolis, MN 55401-2268, or telephone (612)673-2401.

Project Updates: 
June 3, 2013:
This project is complete.  Crack sealing will take place in 2014.
May 28, 2013: 
Construction on the portion from Lyndale Ave to Hennepin Ave is tentatively scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 29th.
May 21, 2013: 
Construction on the portion from Lyndale Avenue to Hennepin Avenue has been postponed until an arrangement can be made with a suitable sign company for traffic safety and control.  The portion from Nicollet Avenue to Lyndale is complete, and crack sealing will take place in 2014.
May 8, 2013:  The portion from Lyndale Avenue to Hennepin Avenue is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of May 20.

May 3, 2013:  The portion from Nicollet Ave to Lyndale Ave is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of May 6.  Resurfacing from Lyndale Ave to Hennepin Ave will be completed later in 2013.
May 1, 2013:  Construction from Lyndale to Hennepin will be completed later in 2013.
