28th Ave S Resurfacing
Project Type:
Between 40th and 50th St E, this is a paving resurfacing project. This project will consist of a 3” mill and overlay and select curb and gutter replacement. The purpose of the resurfacing program is to extend the life of a roadway by approximately 10 years. Without this program, streets in the in the program would not see surface improvements for many years.
Due to standing water issues, the block between 55th and 56th St E requires that more intensive work be completed. This block will have a storm drain installed, minor changes to the grade, and completed with a mill and overlay.
Additionally, in advance of the resurfacing project, CenterPoint Energy will be replacing the gas main from 40th to 50th St. They are installing a 16” steel gas main to replace the existing 16” cast iron main. Total duration of the CenterPoint work will be approximately 3.5 months, and work is scheduled to start in the latter half of May.

Project Limits:
The 28th Ave S project is located in south Minneapolis. The sections between 40 St E and E Minnehaha Parkway and between 55th and 56th St E were constructed in 1957, or 56 years ago. The section between E Minnehaha Parkway and 50th St E was constructed in 1951, or 62 years ago.
Construction Start Date:
Construction will be done during the 2013 construction season. Check back for starting dates.
Length of Construction:
The resurfacing project from 40th to 50th St E will last approximately two weeks. Select curb and gutter replacement will take in advance of the mill and overlay.
The work between 55th and 56th St W will last approximately four weeks.
Traffic Impact:
The mill and overlay work between 40th and 50th ST E will be performed using full road closures, mostly during working hours. There will be a limited number of overnight closures due to the milling depth. The select curb and gutter repair will take place in advance of the mill and overlay and will require some lane closures. Streets that we will be working on will be posted NO PARKING prior to work on that particular street.
The work between 55th and 56th St E will be done under full road closure.

Pre-payment Information:
Prepayment is made to the Minneapolis Finance Department. Pay statements are sent only by request and the taxpayer is solely responsible for obtaining said statement. Full prepayments may be accepted only through December 31st, 2013 without interest. Partial prepayments are not provided for. No further notice of prepayment will be published.
