Appeals Process
Hennepin County Board of Appeal and Equalization
- Under state law, the applicant can appeal the Minneapolis Board of Appeal and Equalization's determination to the Hennepin County Board of Appeal and Equalization.
- The County Board meetings are usually conducted in June.
- The applicant must apply to the Minneapolis Board of Appeal and Equalization before appealing to the County Board.
Minnesota Tax Court
- An applicant does not have to appeal to the City or County Board to file in the Minnesota Tax Court.
- Minnesota tax court forms can be obtained by calling (651) 296-2806.
- The Minnesota Tax Court has two divisions
- Owners of income producing properties are required to furnish the assessors office with income and expense data for each parcel per MN State Statue 278.05, subd. 6
Small Claims Division
- All homestead property
- Any non-homestead property valued under $300,000
- Attorney is not necessary
- Decisions are final
- Filing fee of $150.00
- Filing date on or before April 30th of the payable year
Regular Division
- Any Property valued over $300,000
- Attorney is recommended
- Decision can be appealed to the Supreme Court
- Filing fee of $240.00
- Filing date on or before April 30th of the payable year
