Minneapolis Workforce Development Board
The Minneapolis Workforce Development Board (MWDB) is authorized under the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 (WIOA) to provide policy and program guidance for all activities under WIOA in the City of Minneapolis. The MWDB comprises 21 members, who are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council to a three-year terms. Appointees are submitted to the Governor of Minnesota for certification. Eleven (11) members must be business representatives, including business organizations and trade associations; additional members must be chosen to represent the following: labor organizations (1), apprenticeship programs (1), open positions for labor organizations and/or apprenticeship programs (2), adult education (1), president of local higher education institution (1), economic and community development (1), State employment service under Wagner-Peyser (1), Title I Rehabilitation Act (1), and transportation, housing, or public assistance provider (1). The MWDB chair must represent the private sector. The Chair is elected by the MWDB membership, appointed by the Mayor, and confirmed by City Council. MWDB applicants must be City residents. The residency requirement may be waived for an officer or director of an organization that pays property taxes to the City of Minneapolis.

Seat 19: Representative of the State of Minnesota employment service under the Wagner-Peyser Act.
Seat 21: Representative of a transportation, housing, or public assistance provider.

Applications are reviewed and selected by the Mayor and reviewed by the Economic Development and Regulatory Services Committee for recommendation to the full City Council.
Meetings are typically held bi-monthly on the third Tuesday of the odd months at 8:00 a.m. The location of meetings varies. There is no compensation for attending meetings. The Board meeting locations are accessible to persons with disabilities.
