Zoning Board of Adjustment
What We Do
The Zoning Board of Adjustment hears matters of zoning appeals, zoning variances, and the establishment of legal nonconforming rights. It is a citizen's committee that works with the staff of the CPED-Planning Division. The Zoning Board of Adjustment consists of nine members appointed by the city council. Specific responsibilities include:
- To hear and decide applications for variance from the provisions of the zoning ordinance
- To hear and decide appeals from any order, requirement, decision, determination or interpretation made by the zoning administrator, regulatory services, planning director or other official in the administration or the enforcement of the zoning code.
- To hear and decide applications for certificates of nonconforming use pursuant to the procedures and standards set forth in Chapter 531, Nonconforming Uses and Structures in the zoning ordinance.
