Project Details
Lane changes will include bike lanes in each direction on every block of the project. Two of the four travel lanes will be removed between 2nd St SE and 8th St SE. A continuous left turn lane will be also be added in the 2nd to 8th section.
Striping will be in permanent tape between 4th St SE and Como Ave. A layer of seal coating will be laid over the roadway surface, and permanent tape will be laid into this layer. The remainder of the project will be milled and overlaid as part of the 35W Detour Route Rehabilitation Project, and striping will be in paint.
No parking changes will take place.
Bike racks will be installed.
Project Updates
August 16, 2010
The final striping and signing plans have been approved by City and MnDOT staff and final approval has come from FHWA. Seal coating work has been done between 5th Street SE and Como Avenue SE. The next step is that permanent tape will be laid. The portion of the project between 2nd Street SE and 4th Street SE will be milled and overlaid in 2011 as part of the 35W Detour Route Rehabilitation Project. At that time the 4th to 5th Street section of the project will be seal coated.

On Wednesday, June 10th, Public Works will host a public meeting striping and signing changes (pdf) and a project summary (pdf) are available for review.

This project is part of the larger Bicycle Operations project, and was funded by the federal Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot Program.
