North Minneapolis Bike Walk Center

The Minneapolis Department of Health and Family Support (MDHFS) has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to develop and operate a new bike walk center in north Minneapolis. The goal of the project is to improve bicycling and walking infrastructure to enable a culture that supports biking and walking for transportation and recreation in north Minneapolis. Up to $350,000 is available for the development and operation of this center.

Potential operators of the bike walk center are invited to submit proposals by no later than 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. For-profit organizations, not-for-profit organizations and governmental agencies are eligible to apply.

The new bike walk center will employ Minneapolis adults and youth, and sell bicycles, bicycle related products, pedestrian goods (reusable shopping bags, compact grocery carts, umbrellas, transit passes and other accessories) and provide bike repair and maintenance services. The bike walk center will also include programming and resources to encourage residents to bike and walk for transportation and recreation.
