How to Make a Noise Complaint

There are number of ways to share your concerns about airport noise. 
  

Public Input Meetings

The MAC Noise Program Office holds quarterly Public Input Meetings for residents to voice concerns about airport noise. Attendees who make comments or ask questions receive a written response after the meeting.  The meetings are also used to brief residents about the work of the Noise Oversight Committee (NOC) and about new developments and are sometimes used to address emerging issues.  A summary of the comments received at these meetings is submitted to the NOC and to the MAC's Planning, Development and Environment Committee.  The meetings are generally held at the Metropolitan Airports Commission Offices at 6040 28th Avenue South in Minneapolis but are sometimes held elsewhere.

What Happens When I Complain?  

 Your complaints help all parties, including the City, better understand the biggest concerns affecting residents.  The input helps to identify changes and recognize trends. Complaints also help demonstrate the need for action and solutions. You do not need to make a lot of complaints to be effective.  When the data is viewed by airport staff, cities, and MAC, it shows the number of complaints registered to each area and also the number of different households complaining. The number of different households complaining is often seen as more illustrative than the total number of complaints. Although, both are considered.  Details about the time of day, whether the plane is arriving or departing, and the nature of the disturbance (loud, frequent, low, vibration, rumbling, pitch) are very helpful. Complaint data is reviewed regularly by City staff and Council Members.
