The minimum wage ordinance sets a new hourly minimum wage standard for work performed in Minneapolis. On Jan. 1, 2018, it went up for large businesses. On July 1, 2018, it's going up for all businesses.

The goal of the ordinance is to protect public health and prevent workers from being penalized because of illness or a need to care for a sick loved one.
